6/5/11......Another Sunday and time to do some interior work both on the house and myself.  A trip to the harbor with paints is on the agenda there is a definite need for relaxation and rest and a new perspective on life and art.
The recent loss of my Brother has sapped my time and my energy and changed my outlook on life to what has to be done, what should be done, what I can do and what I would like to do.  Things are now addressed as they need to be not as I would choose to do them. However, I still try to find the time for the art and the harbor and the unfinished works which will arrive in bits and pieces as seen below

Portions of Images from "Lewis R. French", "Lynx" and "Prophet"  close ups show detail.

10/3/10...Sunday a day off from the 7-5 job and time to address some of the work which is waiting for me to complete. Since the last blog
 I have
been working on a variety of works, one of which was finished yesterday. There are currently thirteen new works in progress.
They go from pencil sketches to washes to detail and usually take a minium of sixty hours to complete. Thus the delay between new paintings.

Check out the exhibition page for the update on this years shows.

A recent visit to my framer and a discussion how to present some of the upcoming works was great. I find  with my limited time to paint...usually between 4 - 6 A.M. workdays or Friday or Sunday it is essential to have someone who is both talented and very visual to frame my works. The importance of being able to depend on your framer to not only understand your taste but suggest alternative choices is a godsend.  I will be entering some upcoming works in prestigious shows and need to make sure the whole package is pleasing to the viewer. Thus the frame must draw the eye into the painting...complimenting the work vs. distracting from it and become a vital part of the whole picture.  I have always framed with this in mind and for individual works. Frames are chosen when works are about 75% complete. This is so there will be no delay in case obstacles make shipping a problem. All works are digitally scanned for both print and copyright purposes. Having professionals do both these things means I can spend more time painting and assures quality. It does add considerably to the cost but also the value of the work.

4/26/10 OK I know it's been awhile since I have had time to do this but it is spring and that means it is time for juried shows thus lots of painting and entering to do. But in addition I am trying to get the book on this page for all of you to enjoy. Or at least some of it. I hope this works and you send feedback .

3/28/10.. Sunday. Started the day at 6:AM with feeding cats and then beginning work on some of the paintings partially done in the studio. There is always a collection of works that are in various stages of being finished. I find the hardest part of my artistic endeavors is trying to find time to keep up with those works that are on the easel. Sometimes it is from simply being overburdened with daily chores, other times the inspiration is simply not there. However, the great feeling of finally setting down my brush and taking a work to be scanned or framed makes it all worthwhile.  Any suggestions from other artists are always welcome...so if you have a easy way to keep on track please email me. LMNfineart@aol.com  In the mean time I will continue to try to update this site and work my full time job and paint.

3/1/10 .. Last night I published a limited edition of my book in anticipation of the public opening at Camden Public Library on April 10th at 2:00 PM.

I hope that those attending will find the discussion and book fun and enlightening.

2/26/10 .. The latest adventure has been compiling a book about my Marine Watercolors. I started working on the book in May of 2009 then stopped for quite a while over the summer months. There was so much to do and so little time as is often the case. Self publishing is quite an effort and finally I settled down to work this fall and started seriously looking at what I am doing with my art and why. Self searching to find out not the "how" but the "why" of what I do was a difficult job and a real insight to how I have developed as an artist and who I have become in the process. I am now on the last proof of the book and will be having an opening during April which is Maritime Month at the Camden Public Library.
